You guys will never believe what happened to me.

I was getting my tan on in a high pressure bed the other day and with LITERALLY 35 seconds left on the clock I somehow pony kicked the emergency stop button and turned off my bed.

I know what you're thinking, "Brooke you should be happy, that's 35 less seconds of skin cancer you're getting."

That's what I thought too, initially. But you see, in the fancy bed that I was damaging my skin cells in the top door that closes down on you is electric. You can't push it open or pull it down by yourself...and since I had pony kicked and turned off the bed, the electric remote would no longer work.

I GOT EFFING STUCK IN THE TANNING BED.

After reading a few links (how-to's mostly), I used the minimal amount of bravery I have and took advantage of the quite extensive case of heat stroke I was suffering from to MIRACULOUSLY finagle/slide out into freedom.

The only aftershocks I have noticed have been a mild case of PTSD and a little claustrophobia (here and there) but overall, I have walked away from this incident unscathed.

Happy Monday of Mother's week, Mom! I hope that you had just a great day at the office hanging with Dad and perusing the internet at your desk.

Today I had to write 25 words about you for an article that is coming out next week in SLC: Here were some of the things I came up with:

-My Mom had me when she was 40 years old, I was her 6th baby. To my Mom: “I’m sorry I surprise attacked you when I decided I wanted to be born into your family, but I couldn’t resist because you are SO AMAZING.”

-Popping out a 6th child at age 40 probably wasn’t what my Mom had planned for herself. BUT, I honestly couldn’t resist sneaking into such an amazing family.

-Thanks Mom for always listening to me whine about my #whitegirlproblems and for being the best cook and back scratcher in the Great U.S.

-Mom, damn you’re cool.

-Why I love my Mom? Because she’s amazing, makes food like it’s going out of style, laughs at all my jokes (way hard), scratches my back like a pro, and is the best friend I have ever had.

-Mom, remember when you were 40 and you gave birth to me? Thanks a lot. I love you.

I was so excited to take Cari out for her birthday last night. She has 4 kids and lives a CRAZY busy life and so I wanted to kidnap her for a night and do something fun.

For the last 7 months I have been anticipating and preparing myself to buy Cari this for her birthday present:
Stella Nude. It smells sooo good.

But, when I was researching (aka not doing my math homework) upcoming concerts to SLC I saw this and decided the perfume can wait till Christmas:

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Mindy is loved by my whole family, but especially Cari. Her kids love her music and I hear it playing often at their house when I go over for dinner. I bought tickets and sent Cari an invitation only telling her to be to my house by 6pm on April 7th.

The night consisted of us going to dinner at one of our fave spots here. YUUUUUUUMMMMMM.

On the drive down to Provo we were listening to Justin Bieber (obviously) and I subtley changed the music to Mindy Gledhill.

I handed her an envelope that had our tickets in it and sheet music to Anchor.

The concert was amazing. We were literally in the front row and we got to meet and chat with Mindy after the concert.

When we got back down to SLC we stopped at a little crepe 'n cafe place right by house and got a nutella & banana crepe with a hot coco. Deeelish.

I love my Sis and I hope that she had fun on her Birthday date!

In response to a desperate/advice seeking e-mail this was my News Writing teacher's reply.....

"You should never ask a teacher about motivation, Brooke . We always search for some way to create it and fail miserly at a simple fix.

What may help is this: as you, I came from an academic family (father was an MD, mother very active in social organizations) and I didn't graduate from college until I was 50!

My motivation was to be better than both of them in my chosen fields; i.e., radio/tv and journalism and at that I succeeded. However, they were unimpressed, so #1, don't try to please the folks. You never will.

In my teaching career, I always felt that my enthusiasm was enough to motivate my kids, including you. #2: You can't teach nor learn motivation; you either have a passion for something or you don't. So, don't force yourself. You'll find it. Of that, with you, I have no doubt.

In trying to find my niche, that area which got me up in the morning and happy to get to it, took at lot of research and trying various avenues. Hated tv, though some said I was pretty good at it. Loved radio news but not being a DJ but made more money spinnin' the hits. Tried being a cop and was offered two jobs, but was what they called "badge-heavy;" I like exerting my power. Feel in love with journalism ... so finally found my niche. So, #3, put your toes in the water in a lot of areas, then - on your own! - decide what suits you and dive in.

You have a lot of un-released talent, Brooke. I have absolutely NO doubt you'll be fantastic at whatever you decide to do, as long as the decision is YOURS!

Oh boy. It’s that time of year again. The time when we’re dulled with grey skies and soggy grass. Luckily for us, in just a few weeks Cupid will make his annual appearance and turn those January frowns upside down. Here are a few Valentine’s Day tips to ensure you keep your “in a relationship” status on Facebook:

1. Guys: If the only memory you have of your last year’s Valentine’s date is sitting in the lobby of P.F. Changs for 2 hours, plan ahead this time. Most restaurants in the Salt Lake Valley start taking reservations a few weeks in advance.
2. Guys & Ladies: Planning on buying your sweetheart a gift? Great! But don’t wait until the last second. In stores after New Years, Valentine candies, cards, and gifts come out faster than boys at a Lady Gaga concert. There is no excuse to not have a gift in time. Not wanting to spend very much money? Check your local grocery store and pick up a card. Nothing says, “I love you,” more than you telling your significant other. Being sappy one day a year won’t kill you. Search http://www.wikihow.com if you need some tips on writing your own version of “roses are red.”
3. Guys & Ladies: Long distance relationships are hard, right? Well, they will be a lot harder if you forget to mail your babe their gift in time. Since Valentine’s falls on a Monday this year make sure to mail any cards or presents before then. Post Offices are open Monday-Saturday with business hours ranging between 7:00am-6:00pm (depending on location).
4. Guys & Ladies: How many stuffed animals holding a pink heart can one person receive and/or give? If you decide to give gifts, being creative doesn’t have to be complex. Some simple gift ideas include: making your lover their favorite meal; leaving sweet love notes around for them to find; sneaking a mixed CD with their favorite songs into their car CD player; or doing an activity you hate, but they love.
5. Ladies: Be honest with yourself and face the reality that you most likely don’t deserve a diamond necklace or a million red roses. If you are feeling down about what your boyfriend has planned, just think back on the time he sat through Twilight with you. Enough said.

With birthdays and anniversaries already hard to remember, making yet another holiday special for your significant other might seem like too much to handle. Take a deep breath. Just because it’s the “Day of Love,” doesn’t mean you have to rent a Rolls Royce and have dinner at La Caille. There are plenty of ways to have a successful, stress free and, call me crazy, enjoyable Valentine’s Day this year. Good luck.

Carried Away

I love balloons.
Even though we had to do the floorsett for the new BBW product Carried Away on Superbowl Sunday, I love balloons so much I didn't even care. That much.

Ya know what I did care about? The fact that my AMAZING co-worker Ann (who is practically my Mother figure whilst at work) can kick my trash at doing push-ups.

I am now stating to the world that come July, I will not only be able to do a push-up while Ann lays on my back, but I will be able to.....do a normal push-up too? ANYWAYS, you get my point.

I just don't understand:

1. People who take their kids to the Gateway fountains as if it's a water park. Two words for the those kinds of people: CHEAP ASSES.

2. Picky eaters. I guess I should add, SNOTTY picky eaters. I don't love everything, but I at least have tried once or twice the things that I don't enjoy. (I mean let's be real, I am probably NEVER going to like eating oysters. Am I going to make a barfing face across the dinner table from you if you are slurping back a couple of those sea creatures? Hell no I'm not.) If you are a picky eater and you are snotty about what other people like...newsflash: you have no etiquette and/or are not cultured. AT ALL.

3. Why in some cereal commercials they show a huge bowl of cereal and a huge glass of milk? Honestly, who drinks milk IN ADDITION to the milk in their cereal? RIGHT?!

4. Having a fear of flying. I see the whole "omg I could totally crash into the ocean right now," paranoia. But I honestly don't understand people that are stuck being homebodies because they are too afraid of dying on an airplane. GET OVER IT. See the world, you piece of shit.

5. People who don't think this is funny.

SPRING

Tonight at work we changed our store to this years Spring walls. After 5 hours of product packing and unpacking, the store transformed from the blah-dark-ominous-tones Fall/Winter into the bright-fresh-clean-LADY BUG Spring.

We also finally replaced the 19+ burnt out lightbulbs we had thus giving the illusion you are about 20 feet away from the sun. It's great.

I love my job, I love gratis, I love my brand representing green water bottle.
